Job Summary

This position serves as the subject matter expert on the need analysis and special circumstances processes, and completes federal and university verification processes for financial aid applicants.  Annually reviews/tests system upgrades and is responsible for training DFA staff for areas of responsibility. Advises students, parents and others concerning financial aid programs, eligibility criteria, application procedures and the awarding and disbursement procedures. Possesses financial aid knowledge and uses that knowledge to determine initial eligibility for aid and revises financial aid eligibility based on changes in student and/or family circumstances using professional judgment. Provides back up support to the Need Analysis Program Administrator.

What we Are Looking For:

 

Required:

  • Bachelors degree required and 
  • Minimum of four (4) years of professional experience in an administrative setting.
  • Equivalent experience will be considered.

 

Preferred:

  • Higher education/financial aid experience. 

 

Skilled:

  • Interpersonal communication skills with an ability to communicate effectively orally and through email with a diverse group of students, parents, and colleagues. 
  • Strong technological skillset (familiarity with software and Microsoft Suite). 
  • Attention to detail and excellent analytical skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Review all documentation submitted for verification including but not limited to immigration and tax documents.
  • Research and work with students to ensure we have what’s required for compliance and audit purposes.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of federal, state, and institutional awarding criteria to create and revise financial aid award packages specific to aid awarding
  • Possess a knowledge of Federal Methodology and the impact of Student Aid Index (SAI) changes on financial aid eligibility.
  • Train full-time staff individually and as a group multiple times throughout the year; training will also be conducted for campus partners as needed.
  • Counsel students and parents in person, through phone calls and by email on all financial aid topics including Special Circumstances, Satisfactory Academic Progress Appeals, and specific financial aid packaging questions.
  • Annual system start-up testing of program changes in the Financial Aid Banner system and Campus Logic portal.
  • Collaborate in creating, implementing, maintaining and testing of reports and QCs to monitor for compliance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
