Job Summary

Serve as the seasoned senior level contributor in industrial hygiene (IH) in support of the animal occupational health and safety program. Provide senior level technical guidance for animal research safety programs and provide industrial hygiene services in the recognition, evaluation and control of occupational hazards at the West Lafayette, regional campuses and farms. Determine and conduct appropriate sampling to evaluate employee exposures and determine corrective actions as needed. Subject to 24-hour call-back for chemical spills, accidents, and emergencies. May involve exposure to research animals, heights, extreme temperatures, hazardous chemicals, closed spaces and lifting requirements up to 50 lbs. Works independently with limited supervision. Serve as a resource and assist in coaching and reviewing the work of IH staff and animal care, use program staff and researchers.

 

What We're Looking For:

Education and Experience Needed:

  • Bachelor’s degree in industrial hygiene or related field 
  • Five (5) years of experience in the comprehensive practice of industrial hygiene 
  • An equivalent combination and education may also be considered

 

Preferred:

  • A certification by a nationally recognized organization (CIH, CSP, CHMM, CHP, PE)
  • Two (2) years of experience in a university or research setting


Skills Needed:

  • Excellent communication skills needed
  • Ability to work in a team environment and independently
  • Thorough knowledge of the industrial hygiene profession, federal and state regulations pertaining to occupational health, and monitoring & surveillance instrumentation and procedures is required
  • Strong work organization, verbal and written communication and demonstrated leadership skills are required
  • Subject to 24-hour call back for chemical spills and emergencies
  • Microsoft computer skills required
