Job Summary

This position is funded by an NIH R21 grant, “Improving Causal Inference for National Adolescent Substance Use Datasets,” which aims to develop and test (e.g., via simulation studies) a new discordant sibling random intercept cross-lagged panel model and apply it to examine the associations of specific parenting behaviors, psychopathology symptoms, and substance use in the Adolescent Brain and Cognitive Development study data.

The post-doctoral fellow’s primary role will be to aid in analyses and manuscript development related to the Specific Aims. They will also engage in discussions with intervention experts to understand and improve the generalizability and utility of advanced longitudinal methods for adolescent substance use prevention and intervention efforts. The postdoctoral fellow will report to Dr. Kristine Marceau in the Department of Human Development and Family Sciences, will have the opportunity to participate in all aspects of the proposed research, and will also take the lead in manuscripts and present at conferences. There will be additional collaborative opportunities with other ongoing studies in Dr. Marceau’s Biobehavioral Development Lab. The postdoctoral fellow will be cross-trained by Dr. Robert Duncan and encouraged to engage in Advanced Methods At Purdue programming to facilitate interdisciplinary methods training and collaboration. This position is designed to facilitate the transition to independence.

Salary is commensurate with current NIH stipends (~$61K), depending on experience.

The ideal start date is between July 1, 2024 and September 1, 2024. This is a two-year position.

Minimum qualifications

  • Ph.D. in relevant discipline (e.g., Human Development/Developmental Science; Family Studies/Science; Psychology; Sociology; Public Health) at the position start date.
  • Evidence of strong quantitative methodological skills.
  • Evidence of strong data management skills.
  • Evidence of prior research experience.
  • Substantive knowledge of (or a clear commitment/desire to learn) about the development of psychopathology and substance use during adolescence and parent-adolescent relationships.
  • Evidence of attention to detail and self-motivation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Project management skills.
  • Scholarly publications and presentations.
  • Experience mentoring students.
  • Experience or Expertise in Behavioral Genetics.
  • Leadership experience.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and evidence of effective interdisciplinary collaboration.
