Job Summary

The Senior Data Center Administrator is a seasoned professional contributor who will, under limited direction, participate in the maintenance and day-to-day objectives of the Data Center environment across the Purdue system while making moderate to significant improvements of processes or systems to enhance performance of area.  You will oversee Data Center operations, lead the monitoring and control of centralized Data Center locations and the coordination of equipment installation. This position will participate in operating/ monitoring/maintaining/responding to abnormal conditions in facilities systems, as well as developing and maintaining operational processes and procedures. You will also direct the performance of preventative maintenance and repairs on general facilities equipment. 

This role will participate as a "first responder" to any after-hours issues or emergencies. It will help create and implement standards and guidelines. Position will ensure adequate HVAC, power, and network connectivity to maintain required resources in support of IT infrastructure. Scheduled on-call and nonscheduled call back as necessary. You may supervise student and/or temporary Data Center Management staff and will be responsible for the development of junior Data Center Operations staff, which may include coaching and reviewing their work.

 

The PSC Data Center environment consists of sites across all of Purdue’s campuses, including PWL (West Lafayette), PNW (Hammond, Westville), PFW (Ft. Wayne) and PIN (Indianapolis) Travel between these campuses to perform activity will be considered a normal job function and will be required of this position.  
 

Be part of our renovation of the math HPC Data Center by helping oversee the project with upgrades and telecommunication building data center upgrades.

What We're Looking For:

Education and Experience Needed:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology or a related field is required 
  • Minimum of four (4) years of experience in a Data Center or other mission-critical environment required 
  • Some experience with construction projects, working with contractors, vendors, consultants, etc. a plus.

 

Preferred:

  • Experience with enterprise and research class computing hardware and software

 

Skills Needed:

  • Working knowledge of data communications including fiber optics, ethernet, InfiniBand, WANs, VLANs, and IP networks is require
  • Broad knowledge:
    • typically obtained through advanced education with experience ,of Data Center infrastructure including 3-phase and single-phase power, HVAC, racking and cabling
    • of high voltage filtered systems including UPS, PDU, transformer, generators, etc. 
    • of CRAC and other cooling technologies, including troubleshooting skills
  • Comfortable in consulting with a wide variety of staff, students, contractors, and visitors
  • Must possess good organizational and communications skills
  • Ability to:
    • develop and maintain working relationships with peers, vendors, technical resources and manufacturers
    •  work independently
