Responsible for supervision of the maintenance operations and for providing guidance in the development, installation, and maintenance of aircraft as necessary. Will ensure that all work follows proper FAA practices and University safety standards, will advise supervisor of problems and concerns, and will advise and recommend needed upgrades to meet academic standards and comply with industrial standards within federal regulatory requirements. Will direct the maintenance program, and will watch over the maintenance and repair of all flight training aircraft.
With direction from supervisor, this position will submit required reports and information as required to the FAA on a regular basis. The position will interact with FAA officials when they visit campus for inspections. The position will supervise other technicians and student employees, and provide oversight of onboarding and remedial training as needed.
This position is key to maintenance operations. Lack of proper maintenance and repair could adversely affect student laboratory instruction. In addition, if the mechanic is a holder of an Inspection Authorization rating, the position holder will inspect aircraft as per required inspection items (RII), and return to service (RTS) inspection procedures.
As needed, the position functions as an FAA certified airframe and powerplant mechanic. Will perform maintenance and FAA required inspections of all aircraft assigned to the School of Aviation & Transportation Technology. Will instruct aviation maintenance students as assigned by supervisor. Perform ancillary functions relative to the operation of the Purdue University aircraft fleet including: towing aircraft, ground deicing, aircraft cleaning, fueling, hangaring, and security. What We Are Looking For :
Education and Experience
Qualified candidates will need:
- 2-3 years of experience in aviation maintenance.
Will accept a combination of related education and experience including a HS Diploma / GED and 6 years of experience or an Associate’s and 4 years of experience
Federal Aviation Administration Aircraft Mechanic Certificate with Airframe and Powerplant Ratings.
Skills needed:
- Computer literacy with MS office products. Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.
- Valid Driver’s License.
What is Helpful:
- Inspection Authorization rating.
