Job Summary

The Purdue Veterinary Hospital is looking for enthusiastic veterinary assistants to join our large animal team. Veterinary assistants are responsible for maintaining a clean and stocked hospital, providing basic animal care needs, and helping the team work more efficiently to complete orders and patient treatments. Tasks include patient restraint, set-up and clean-up for specific procedures including knowledge of specific equipment, stocking and cleaning of patient care areas, and transportation of equipment and supplies between all areas of the hospital. Will also travel with the equine ambulatory team and assist with exams and procedures at the farms.

What We're Looking For:

S2:

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • 3 years of relevant work experience (1 year in a veterinary hospital setting or related experience and 2 years of customer service experience)
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work under pressure in emergency situations
  • Ability to read and write in English
  • Ability to lift and carry 25-50 pounds frequently and 60 pounds occasionally
  • Must have confidence around equine and farm animals (companion and production) and basic knowledge of animal husbandry

 

S3:

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • 4 years of relevant work experience (2 years in a veterinary hospital setting or related experience and 2 years of customer service experience)
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work under pressure in emergency situations
  • Ability to read and write in English
  • Ability to lift and carry 25-50 pounds frequently and 60 pounds occasionally
  • Must have confidence around equine and farm animals (companion and production) and basic knowledge of animal husbandry

  • This position will be filled at the S2 or S3.The hiring manager will determine the job level based on the skills, experience and qualifications of the selected candidate.
  • Purdue will not sponsor work authorization for this position.
  • A background check is required for employment in this position
  • This was formerly classified as an operational/technical position; an internal lateral transfer at the S3 level will retain same benefit standing.
