Purdue University Lifeguards must meet a high level of expectations and qualifications.  We expect a high degree of competency in skills which is why we emphasize this in our hiring practices and at all of our trainings.  To meet these, the following certifications are required by all lifeguards and must be maintained:

• American Red Cross Lifeguarding/First-Aid/CPR/AED Rev. 17
• American Red Cross Administering Emergency Oxygen

If you don't have a certification yet we can help you acquire the required certifications after you apply, come to a tryout, and pass the lifeguarding course pre-skills assessment. 

Job Summary

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Ensure patron surveillance and safety.
• Enforce all aquatic center policies, rules and regulations
• Recognize and respond effectively to all emergencies
• Complete Bi-Weekly Changellenges including swim & tread requirements, in water , and CPR/AED/FA skill challenges
• Successfully complete semester emergency preparedness drills
• Attend and participate in all in-service trainings
• Maintain all required certifications
