Job Summary

 

The Communications Specialist will, under the guidance and direction of the Director of Marketing and Communications, develop content to support the marketing and communications strategies for the Libraries and School of Information Studies. Serve as the central point of organized communication for both internal and external audiences. Write, edit, and produce a wide variety of communication pieces using different writing styles to help raise awareness for Libraries. Write web content, social media posts, blog entries, presentations, newsletters, press releases, articles, marketing collateral (e.g., flyers, posters, advertisements), and specialized correspondence. Collaborate with the graphic designer to effectively integrate copy and artwork. Assist in the coordination of events that promote Libraries. Develop an outreach plan to build and strengthen relationships with alumni and prospective donors through various engagement initiatives.

                                           

                                            This position has a targeted salary of $45,400.00 - $63,100.00 commensurate with education and experience.

About Us:
The Purdue University Libraries and School of Information Studies system on the West Lafayette campus includes six subject-oriented libraries, the Hicks Undergraduate Library, and the Virginia Kelly Karnes Archives and Special Collections Research Center. Staff total nearly 150, of which 81 are faculty and professionals. The campus library system includes 3,317,331 printed volumes and electronic books; 227,814 electronic and print journals; and government documents and microforms in excess of 400,000. To complement the online collections, Libraries also houses more than 600,000 volumes in closed stacks that individuals can request for next-day delivery. In addition, any item held in the Big Ten Academic Alliance libraries can be requested directly and typically arrives within a few days.

What We Are Looking For :

 

Education and Experience:

Bachelor's degree in communication, public relations, Journalism, marketing, Writing, or related discipline
Two-Three (2-3) years of experience
Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.

 

Preferred:
Experience in a university setting preferred.

 

Skills Needed:
Conceptual understanding of communications, public relations, and marketing. 
Familiarity with marketing collateral development and related project management. 
Detail-oriented, creative problem-solver with strong communication, writing, and editorial skills. 
Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to prioritize workload and to follow through on multiple projects at various stages. 
Highly motivated individual with a demonstrated capacity for leadership and teamwork. 
Strong interpersonal and listening skills with the ability to work with diverse groups of people. 
Ability to represent the University with tact and diplomacy at all levels as well as handling confidential documents and information with discretion. 
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, website content management, internet, Adobe Creative Suite, and social media platforms
