Senior Administrative Assistant, Department of Public Health

The Senior Administrative Assistant will provide high-level administrative support to the Graduate Program within the Department of Public Health.  In this role, you will serve as the department’s graduate program coordinator and your work will span the student life cycle.  Support starts by being the first contact for new students through proactive communications including registration and orientation details, and continues through the tracking of degree completion.


Other major responsibilities include collecting and reviewing student portfolios, managing the Slate application system, supporting recruitment activities and assisting with the multiple graduate student events held annually.  You will also support alumni communications, manage the weekly student newsletter and provide administrative support as needed in all areas impacting graduate students.



  • Bachelor's degree
  • Three (3) months of experience in administrative or office support
  • Consideration will be given to an equivalent combination of related education and required work experience
    • for example, a high school diploma and four (4) years and three (3) months of experience
  • Experience with event coordination and/or support
  • Strong oral and written communication skills to effectively support and collaborate with students, staff, and faculty
  • Ability to work independently and with minimum supervision
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, handle interruptions and still meet deadlines
  • Experience using Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to lift and carry 10 to 25 pounds frequently and up to 40 pounds occasionally



  • Bachelor's degree in public health
  • Experience supporting students
  • Familiarity with the public health field and experience in an academic environment
  • Experience with Purdue systems software including Blackboard/Brightspace, Cognos, Slate, and Banner, and Delivra
  • Familiarity with graduate level academics, procedures, policies and admissions at Purdue University
