Job Summary
What You'll Be Doing:
Academic Advisors in the College of Engineering promote an environment that challenges and supports students by providing meaningful opportunities for student learning, development, and integration of curricular and co-curricular experiences. Advisors are dedicated to empowering students to be active responsible learners while guiding students to make well-informed decisions that lead to the achievement of students’ educational, career and life goals.
Responsibilities:
· Advise and support undergraduate students in the College of Engineering, focusing on two specific programs.
· Work collaboratively with faculty and staff to support student success and retention.
· Assist with the development and implementation of programs and initiatives that support student success.
· Create an open and respectful environment by utilizing student-centered practice that emphasizes mutual respect, dignity, self-awareness, and authenticity.
· Center the student in an asset-framed approach where advising provides educational guidance to meet students where they are and acknowledges the critical value of each student’s unique social capital.
· Empower students to be active responsible learners and assist them in making well-informed decisions.
· Guide students in course selection and the process for registering for courses.
· Identify campus activities, programs, and opportunities related to students' educational and career goals.
· Maintain a consistent pattern of contact and communications with assigned students.
· Use data to provide timely outreach to students on their academic progress and conduct audits on student’s degree progress.
· Assess when a student’s situation requires referral to campus resources.
· Maintain and ensure confidentiality of student records.
· Teach students about the university’s structure, systems, policies, and practices.

What We're Looking For:
Required:
· Master’s degree in higher education or related field
· One year of student advising, recruitment, or other student-facing experience
· Ability to collaborate with faculty, staff, current and prospective students, parents, and families
· Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
· Ability to problem solve and utilize campus resources for individuals and groups
· Ability and willingness to work in a changing environment
· Strong proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
PREFERRED:
· Master’s degree in Student Services, Counseling, Higher Education Administration, or field related to the majors advised
· Knowledge of undergraduate student development and recruitment
· Knowledge of programs and majors at Purdue University
· Knowledge of field related to majors advised

This position is a hybrid position with the option for 4 on campus days and 1 remote day.
Academic Advisor Salary: $46,000
