Laboratory Manager

Job Summary

As the Laboratory Manager  you will oversee the daily operations of the lab.  You will be responsible for managing projects and interacting with internal and external clients. You will support and sustain the student lab experience primarily in the ET-Engineering Technologies at Purdue's Statewide Technology location at Anderson. Additionally, you will set up labs, test operation of equipment and secure lab activities related to the course materials as well as maintain, repair and calibrate all lab equipment.  You will also provide routine preventive maintenance and determine appropriate equipment repair/calibration schedules.  You will utilize your expertise to build and prototype specific devises for the instructional labs.  You will generate and maintain appropriate documentation and schematics.  Maintain inventory and purchase necessary lab equpment and supplies as well as the location's capital equipment.

 

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Technology, Engineering, or related field
  • Two years of experience in manufacturing and/or electrical/mechanical work.
  • In lieu of degree, consideration will be given to an equivalent combination of related education and required work experience
  • Good communication skills and ability to interpret oral/written instructions. 
  • Ability to apply effective problem solving skills and use own initiative to plan and implement projects.  
  • Knowledge of and ability to accurately maintain and update technical manuals, write instructions, keep current with emerging trends.  
  • Knowledge of mechanical and electrical concepts; materials testing concepts and mechanical engineering technology lab test equipment. 
  • Knowledge of preventive maintenance and repair;  Operational knowledge of manual/power tools, machine/process control languages and components. 
  • Skills and experience in computer systems, including hardware and CAD/CAM software. 
  • Experience with programming and operating CNC machinery, metrology equipment, and various other pieces of equipment.
  • A valid US or Canadian driver's license
  • Ability to lift and carry 25-50 lbs. frequently, and up to 60 lbs. occasionally
