Job Summary

The Assistant Director of Admissions – International will promote Purdue University’s undergraduate programs and advise prospective students in the college search and selection process.  This position is primarily responsible for assisting the Office of Admissions with the strategy and initiatives related to the admission and recruitment of international undergraduate students. Responsibilities will include admission recruitment, application review and responding to phone and email inquiries. This position will frequently engage, both in-person and virtually, with prospective domestic and international students and their families in one-on-one meetings as well as to large and small audiences on-campus and around the world. The position may also include program coordination and other projects. 

The ideal candidate will be an outstanding communicator with the ability to tactfully engage and build relationships with prospective students and families, high school counselors, organizations, and campus partners. Additionally, this position requires cultural understanding, international travel, the ability to think critically, independently using problem solving, and judgment skills to make educated, professional decisions. The successful candidate will understand and support the benefits of a diverse campus community and value the perspective of others.

Education and Experience

Qualified candidates will need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in any area of study.
  • Two years of customer service, admissions, recruitment, enrollment management or related experience. 
     


Skills needed:

  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, written, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interpret and apply admissions policies, procedures, and guidelines accurately and consistently.
  •  Ability to analyze academic records, evaluate applicant information, and make sound admissions recommendations.
  •  Ability to effectively communicate with and serve diverse and international populations.
  •  Demonstrated intercultural competence through international, cross-cultural, or multicultural experiences.
  •  Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and experience using database or CRM systems and other web-based technologies.
  •  Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  •  Ability to work a flexible schedule, including occasional evenings and weekends.
  •  Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally, including international travel for a minimum of two weeks annually.
  •  Valid driver's license.

 

Nice to have:

  • Experience in undergraduate admissions, recruitment, or enrollment management.
  • Familiarity with international secondary education systems, grading scales, curricula, and the evaluation of international secondary-level academic credentials for U.S. university admission.
  • Basic knowledge of F-1 student visa regulations and international student enrollment requirements.
  • Experience working with students, schools, or partners in an international or multicultural environment.
  • Foreign language proficiency.

The anticipated annual salary for this position is $50,000 commensurate with the candidate’s education and experience. The final salary offer will be determined based on a variety of factors, including equity, available budget, educational background, and relevant experience.
