Job Summary

 

Represent and serve as head diving coach in the event of the head diving coach's absence. Provide instruction, training, and motivation to prepare student-athletes for practices, games, or competitive events. Demonstrate/ instruct student athletes on sport performance principles, game strategies, and safety rules.  Provide diving program management support to the head diving coach. Evaluate student-athletes' strengths and weaknesses as possible recruit or to improve the current student athletes' technique to prepare them for competition.  Serve as mentor to student-athletes with academic and personal issues.  Provide functional supervision to temporary student employees.‎

 

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree Degree field in an area that provides a knowledge base in exercise, physiology or physical performance or in related field
  • Six years coaching or playing experience at the collegiate level or above                
  • Knowledge of sport-specific fundamentals, techniques, and safety rules & regulations.  
  • Ability to analyze, interpret, communicate, and adhere to University, Big Ten Conference, and NCAA policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.  
  • Excellent communication (oral & written), planning, organizational, interpersonal, interviewing, strength training, and counseling skills.  
  • Ability to recruit on a national-level, instructs & motivates student-athletes on sport fundamentals, techniques and safety rules & regulations, and provides academic and personal mentoring.  
  • Ability to influence and build positive relationships among diverse individuals including: student-athletes, parents, coaches, media, faculty, staff, students, and general public. Must be able to foster a participative management style to successfully guide the work of others.  
  • Must possess a learning orientation to changing technology impacting sport.  
  • Personal computer and related software skills, e.g., word processing, spreadsheets, data query, Internet, etc., necessary.
  • Proficiency in belt/rope spotting techniques on diving specific apparatus, including the ability to safely and effectively pull belts to assist athletes during training sessions.
  • Flexibility to work irregular hours, including evenings, weekends, and travel for competitions and recruiting events.
  • Ability to develop a comprehensive training program for student athletes
