Job Summary

This position requires a person who can currently perform routine animal and biological study procedures.  The person needs to be able to work independently in large animal studies from beginning to the end of a study and be responsible for data collection and reporting to lab clients and PIs.  It is essential the person keep detailed and organized records of procedures, experiments, and biologic stocks.  Maintain clean, organized lab space and keep equipment in clean or sterile working order and is required to work with animal and human biologic materials.  Expected to effectively communicate with client lab members and PIs.  Must be able to make minor changes to experimental procedures to achieve robust data, and communicate ideas and methods for improving services and addressing problems.

 

Responsibilities and Duties include:  1) cell culture techniques including initiation, propagation, expansion, and cryopreservation of cell lines and tumor tissue.  2) Perform research work on immune competent and immune deficient mice bearing subcutaneous tumor xenografts, including:  tumor cell implantation, monitoring mouse fitness, measuring tumor volumes via caliper measurements or imaging (fluorescence, ultrasound, MRI, CT), administer treatment with drug or chemical via multiple routes, euthanizing mice, perform necropsies and tissue preservation.  3)Collect, organize, report, and analyze experimental data from animal studies.  4)  Must routinely assess in vivo studies and adapt quickly to issues related to animal experimentation.

 

Other duties include:  1) Order lab supplies and equipment and maintain inventory.  2) Ensure compliance with safety, biologic, and animal protocols and regulations with minimal input.  3) Perform mouse colony management of in-house breeding area.  4) Receive advanced training to acquire complex skills and to facilitate the expansion of services.  The successful applicant will have a minimum of one year of animal experimentation experience and will be expected to progress to more and more complex studies that will involve survival surgeries and advanced techniques.
