In this role, you will direct the financial management and business office operations for Purdue Online, overseeing annual weighted operating expenditures exceeding $30–40 million. You will serve as a key advisor to executive leadership, collaborate with central business service operations, and ensure sound financial stewardship that supports Purdue's strategic goals. Through mentorship, partnership, and continuous improvement, you will help create an environment where employees can grow, succeed, and make a meaningful impact.

 

This is a dual level posting where the hiring manager will determine the level commensurate with the education and experience of the chosen candidate.

 

Responsibilities include:

  • Direct the financial management and business office operations for Purdue Online, overseeing annual operating expenditures exceeding of $30–40 million.
  • Lead budget development, forecasting, recommendations, planning, and financial analysis activities.
  • Prepare and analyze financial and management reports that support strategic decision-making and long-range planning.
  • Interpret and apply University, Federal, State, and sponsoring agency policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Collaborate with central business service operations and campus partners to support strategic initiatives and organizational goals.
  • Provide strategic financial management guidance to support operational effectiveness and fiscal responsibility.
  • Serve as the primary resource and liaison between Purdue Online and central university offices.
  • Maintain a high-performing business office that delivers exceptional support to executive leadership, directors, managers, staff, and students.
  • Serve as a mentor and key resource to business office colleagues, fostering collaboration, knowledge sharing, and professional growth.
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes, enhance efficiency, and strengthen business operations across the organization.
  • Support a culture of accountability, service excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement.

What We're Looking For:

Required:

Education and Experience:

Professional 1 Level:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Management, Finance or related field of study.
  • One year of business administration, financial management, or related experience.

 

Professional 2 Level:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Management, Finance or related field of study.
  • Two years of business administration, financial management, or related experience.

 

Skills Needed:

  • Excellent planning, problem-solving, analytical, organizational, project management, financial analysis, supervisory, and customer service skills.
  • Demonstrate ability and willingness to learn and adapt to evolving technologies, systems and business processes such as SAP and AI enabled tools.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Demonstrate originality, creativity, and ability to resolve complex issues on a regular basis.
  • Ability to analyze, interpret, implement, and communicate University policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to influence and build work relationships among a diverse workforce at all levels. 
  • Must be able to foster a participative supervisory style that utilizes accountability, respect and teamwork to successfully guide the work of others.

 

What is Helpful:

  • Six credit hours of accounting coursework.
  • A demonstrated knowledge of sponsor and University regulations and basic proficiency in all technical and professional skills related to business office and contract grant management.   
  • Knowledge of Cognos, PREMIS, and Banner.
