Job Summary

 

The purpose of this position is to serve as an administrative clerk in the M.D Steer Speech, Swallowing, and Hearing Clinic. Coordinates the daily administration of the clinic schedules for the clinic’s clinicians, student clinicians, and clients. Maintain a master schedule for each semester, maintain schedule and adjust daily to changing needs, maintain and manage the flow of patients on waitlists while alerting clinic leadership of increased patient loads. Improves medical records by documenting all forms of insurance and Medicare information. Assumes responsibility to ensure pre-authorization, insurance billing, and payment compliance.

 

Required:

  • High school diploma/GED 
  • Three years clerical, office or clinic support with at least 
  • Skills in telephone etiquette, filing, and customer needs assessment 
  • Basic math and cash handling skills, including balancing a cash drawer 
  • Motivated individual with ability to efficiently multi task, work under pressure, handle frequent interruptions and meet deadlines. 
  • Ability to identify and determine problems, analyze information and implement solutions.  
  • Proficiency in some MS Office(Excel & Microsoft Word), 
  • Excellent customer relations 
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision, knowledge of office machines. 
  • Understanding of electronic records maintenance. 

 

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of CPT coding 
  • Experience working at Purdue
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with emphasis on accuracy and attention to detail 
  • One year of electronic health records experience 
  • One year of medical insurance billing/processing experience
