Job Description:

Job Summary

The Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine (PVM), Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences (VCS), invites applications for a full-time, 12-month Clinical-Track or Tenure-Track faculty position in Veterinary Dermatology at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. The successful candidate will join a well-established comparative dermatology service that currently includes one clinical-track associate professor, one licensed veterinary technician, and one veterinary technician assistant.

Applicants must hold a DVM or equivalent degree and meet at least one of the following criteria: hold board certification by the ACVD or ECVD, have completed an ACVD-approved residency, or be currently enrolled in an ACVD-approved residency with an interest in an academic career. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience, and employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a background check.

The Dermatology Service is equipped with advanced technology, including a Karl Storz video otoscope, a VetScalpel CO₂ surgical laser, Nikon microscopy systems, and modern anesthesia equipment. Facilities comprise a spacious main procedure room with a wet table, an adjacent room dedicated to minor procedures and housing cage banks, and a shared surgical suite for laser procedures. Together, these resources support a diverse and growing caseload while fostering excellent opportunities for clinical training, scholarship, and innovation.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will actively contribute to the College's missions of learning, discovery, and engagement. Teaching responsibilities include participation in lectures and laboratories within the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine and Veterinary Technology programs, clinical instruction in the Purdue University Veterinary Hospital (PVH), and mentorship of house officers, including interns and residents. Faculty members also have opportunities to participate in university-wide graduate education programs leading to MS and PhD degrees.

Clinical responsibilities include providing specialty dermatology services within the Purdue University Veterinary Hospital, supervising veterinary students as well as house officers, and fostering strong relationships with referring veterinarians. Clinical-track faculty are expected to engage in collaborative clinical research and scholarly activities. Purdue University's highly collaborative environment offers extensive opportunities for both clinical and basic science research within and beyond the College of Veterinary Medicine. These opportunities include retrospective and prospective studies involving both small and large animal dermatology. Candidates appointed to the Tenure Track will be expected to develop and sustain an independent research program in veterinary dermatology. The College is strongly committed to faculty success and professional development and offers a formal mentoring program to support career growth and advancement.

Service and engagement activities are also valued components of the position. Faculty are encouraged to participate in departmental, college, and university committees; contribute to professional organizations; provide continuing education programs; engage in community outreach; and support other activities that advance the missions of the Department and College.
