Communications Professional

Job Summary

As the Communications Specialist you will, under the guidance and direction of the Director of Marketing and Communications, develop content to support the marketing and communications strategies for the Libraries and School of Information Studies. As a key member of a three-person team, you will serve as the central point of organized communication for both internal and external audiences. You will write, edit, and produce a wide variety of communication pieces using different writing styles to help raise awareness for Libraries. You will write web content, social media posts, blog entries, presentations, newsletters, press releases, articles, marketing collateral (e.g., flyers, posters, advertisements), and specialized correspondence. This position will collaborate with the graphic designer to effectively integrate copy and artwork and produce short-form videos. Your creative thoughts will be sought after in team brainstorming and ideation meetings. You will assist in the planning and execution of events that promote Libraries. Frequently, you will interact with faculty, staff, and students. You will further develop an outreach plan to build and strengthen relationships with alumni and prospective donors through various engagement initiatives.

What We're Looking For:

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism, marketing, writing, or related discipline 
  • Two (2) – three (3) years of experience in communications, public relations, and/or marketing including writing, editing, desktop publishing, and developing web content required
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered

 

Preferred:

  • Experience in a university setting 


 

Skills Needed:

  • Conceptual understanding of communications, public relations, and marketing
  • Familiarity with marketing collateral development and related project management
  • Detail-oriented, creative problem-solver with strong communication, writing, and editorial skills
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to prioritize workload and to follow through on multiple projects at various stages
  • Highly motivated individual with a demonstrated capacity for leadership and teamwork
  • Strong interpersonal and listening skills with the ability to work with diverse groups of people
  • Ability to represent the University with tact and diplomacy at all levels as well as handling confidential documents and information with discretion
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, website content management, internet, Adobe Creative Suite, and social media platforms
  • Familiarity with website content management systems, Abode Creative Suite, and social media platforms
