This position leads, coordinates, and exercises administrative and functional authority for the planning and execution of capital and small public works projects, including design and construction.  The position has responsibility for coordination of all project participants as well as the technical and administrative activities of the project.  This position must ensure effective communication and smooth working relationships between all disciplines and project participants.  This position also serves as the advocate and resource for the customer as well as manage the customer’s goals and expectations for scope, schedule and budget.

 

About Us:

Capital Asset Management collaborates with architects, engineers, contractors, other internal Purdue departments, and other service providers to meet the needs of the campus community. Our services include the development and verification of preliminary construction scopes and budgets, construction administration and project management for small public works and capital program projects. Our staff members are the liaisons between the client and service providers; act as technical and clerical resources; and manage project scope, schedule and budget.

This team also serves as gatekeepers for managing the inflow of construction project and planning study requests in the SAP Portfolio and Project Management (SAP-PPM) system and coordinates the University’s system-wide annual capital planning process.

What We're Looking For:

Education and Experience Needed:

  • Bachelor's degree in/or experience in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, Interior Design or related area required 
  • Four (4) years of experience in project management and strategic planning or equivalent knowledge of diverse construction experience
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered
    • An Associate's degree and six (6) years of experience or a High School Degree or HSE and eight (8) years of relevant experience

  • Project team leadership and organizational skills
  • Strong written and verbal communications
  • Collaboration skills and ability to manage multiple projects and priorities
  • Ability to anticipate project issues and proactively seek win-win solutions with a demonstrated ability to act as a liaison between multiple parties
  • Ability to interpret and implement University policies and procedures
    • Demonstrated:
    • knowledge of how to read and interpret construction drawings, as well as proven understanding of construction methods and techniques
    • ability to balance project scope, schedule and budgets with multiple stakeholders 
    • ability to ensure projects are completed on time, on budget and closed out within an acceptable timeframe

 

Preferred:

  • Knowledgeable in the areas of negotiations, contract management, and procurement for public design/construction projects desired
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Procore, TEAMS, SAP and related web-based project management systems desired
