The Data Analyst for Indiana GEAR UP (INGU) is responsible for extracting, manipulating, analyzing and assessing data to support information requests and enable informed decision-making. The person in this position will be responsible for minor changes in systems and processes to solve problems and improve effectiveness of program data for over 14,000 students across ten partner school corporations statewide. The analyst will also provide guidance and assistance to the Data Assistant and support other program employees along with communicating with internal and external stakeholders regarding facts, policies, and practices.
Additionally, the Data Analyst will work collaboratively with external evaluators to perform data analysis, validation, make corrections and become the expert on INGU program data and database tools. This person will also work with the Director of Operations and GEAR UP leadership to ensure program data supports achieving program objectives, including increasing postsecondary expectations, high school graduation, and college enrollment rates. Duties for this position focus on data collection, analysis, and reporting, communication and relationship management, and some travel is required.

About Us:
Indiana Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs (INGU) was established in 2016 through a competitive grant award from the U.S. Department of Education to Purdue University’s College of Education. Having completed the first grant cycle in August 2024, Indiana GEAR UP has received a new grant in the amount of $35 million dollars ($5M per year) to continue our work through August of 2031.
INGU is focused on improving several key academic and extra-academic readiness indicators for low-income students to achieve three strategic goals: (1) increasing the postsecondary expectations and readiness of students; (2) improving high school graduation and post-secondary enrollment rates; and (3) raising the knowledge of postsecondary options, preparation, and financing among students and families.
What We Are Looking For :
Education and Experience
Qualified candidates will need:
- A Bachelor’s degree in data analysis, business administration, or other related field
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
- Minimum of 2-3 years of experience with data management or similar systems
Skills needed:
- Ability to visualize data to help users understand complex data patterns and relationships
- Capacity to perform data manipulation and cleaning to fix or remove incorrect, corrupted, incorrectly formatted, duplicate, or incomplete data within datasets
- Excellent written communication skills including proper use of grammar, spelling, writing structure, proofreading and editing
- Prowess to manage and analyze large, often complex, data sets to identify trends, patterns, and key insights to drive data informed decision making
- Excellent interpersonal skills including listening, verbal capacity, team orientation and an ability to influence and build working relationships in a diverse workforce and across multiple employee groups
- Use independent judgment and creative problem-solving to address program needs and deliver solutions that meet the objectives of the INGU program
- Ability to adapt based on feedback from stakeholders and the evolving needs of the program, schools and communities
- Possess initiative, curiosity, problem-solving capacity, organization, and planning skills
- Possess a learning and implementation orientation to changing technology
- Manage and prioritize multiple tasks and deadlines with attention to detail and follow-through
- Proficient use of personal computers and standard software including word processing, spreadsheets, database systems, email, Google Suite and internet browsers
- Proficiency to read, interpret, communicate and adhere to university policies and procedures
What is Nice to have:
- Experience with Python and/or SQL
- Experience working with student data
