Job Summary

The Associate Director for Rowing Programs and Facilities will work collaboratively with and report to the Director of Recreational Sports to develop, oversee, and administer a comprehensive competitive rowing program.

 

Responsibilities include:

  • Work collaboratively with and provide leadership to rowing staff and/or graduate assistantship staff to develop, program and administer the delivery of a comprehensive competitive rowing experience
  • Responsible for supervising, evaluating and leading the staff.  Ensure continuous professional and personal development opportunities
  • Responsible for supervising, developing and leading undergraduate officer board staff in fund-raising, community service, fiscal responsibility and social activities
  • Expected to build, develop, and cultivate relationships with numerous campus constituents such as Academic Units, Transportation Services, Purchasing Services, Risk Management, Student Health and Wellness, Human Resources, etc. and with community constituents such as state, county and city Parks and Recreational Departments, community service organizations and local law enforcement branches
  • Must stay abreast of regional and national trends in rowing instruction, risk assessment, equipment development and physiological and psychological training trends for evaluation and implementation
  • Work collaboratively with other division staff to ensure that proper risk management and safety protocols and procedures are in place and followed. 
  • Serve on the management team and provide support and assistance to the senior management team with regard to the execution of executive and administrative duties of considerable scope and complexity requiring excellent knowledge, initiative, judgment, and critical thinking
  • Evening and weekend work is required

What We Are Looking For

 

Education and Experience:
Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum 6-7 years of competitive rowing experience

 

Skills:
Required:                

  • Ability to offer leadership, vision, and strategic planning that will contribute to comprehensive crew programs and facilities that meet the ever-changing needs of the university and local community
  • Must show caring and developmental attitude towards members
  • Must have the ability to embrace the philosophy of “One Team” 
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise, manage, and develop professional staff to carry out their duties with students
  • Ability to work with staff to develop their leadership and program management skills 
  • Must show ability to establish long and short-term goals consistent with the mission of the university and the division
  • Must show ability to build, develop, and cultivate relationships across campus and regionally with a variety of constituents
  • Successful candidate will be self-motivated, energetic, service minded and adept at solving problems
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse constituents
  • Must possess strong communication (written/oral) as well as interpersonal skills
  • Proficient at computer software word processing, spreadsheet, electronic communication, etc.
  • Some evening and weekend work will be required
