Job Summary
This position is primarily wastewater collection system operations and maintenance related. Assist in monitoring, operating, and performing routine maintenance and repairs at the Universities Waterworks Department. This includes distribution and collection systems utilizing combination sewer cleaning and closed-circuit television vehicles. Will assist in the documentation of administrative, health, safety, and environmental requirements. Direct internal and external customers and suppliers of potable water, raw water, stormwater, and sewage to Water /Wastewater Supervisor and/or Crew Chief. This position requires completion of mandatory wastewater certifications within 36 months. Class A wastewater and Collections system Operations Class 1. Perform various tasks as assigned by supervisor and Crew Chief. On 24-hour call - irregularly planned and unplanned overtime and flextime required. Must complete mandated training. Crosstrain with others in Utilities Operations. Value diversity by working effectively with people from different viewpoints and backgrounds.
What We're Looking For
Education and Experience Needed:
- High School Degree or High School Equivalency (HSE)
- One (1) year of experience in one of the following areas: water distribution, wastewater collection, plumbing, metering, or backflow prevention. Awareness of environmental health concerns or environmental health experience preferred but not required.
- One (1) year of mechanical aptitude in one of the following areas: water, wastewater, plumbing, wastewater collections, and/or municipal utilities required
- Valid Indiana drivers license required
Skills Needed:
- Must be able to:
- lift 50 to 80 lbs. frequently, and up to 100 plus lbs. occasionally
- pass mandated physical exams
- Good verbal communication skills are required
- Ability to perform basic mathematics
- Must have:
- the ability to complete continuing education and training
- a basic understanding of hydraulics, collections system operation & maintenance, repair, and replacement of equipment and structures
- the ability to learn and operate Combination Sewer Cleaner Vacuum Truck and Closed-Circuit TV camera equipment
- the ability to obtain and maintain a valid CDL license within 6 months of hire
Preferred:
- Indiana Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Class A and Indiana Wastewater Collections System Operator certification
- Awareness of environmental health concerns or environmental health experience
- Operation of combined sewer cleaning trucks and sewer video inspection equipment
- Computer skills including familiarity with word, excel, and adobe is preferred, to include basic blueprint and map reading
