Industry Consultant, Food & Beverage Manufacturing

Purdue University is looking for an individual who desires meaningful work that directly impacts Indiana's manufacturing sector. The mission of the Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP) is to advance Indiana's prosperity, health and quality of life. Each year MEP serves hundreds of manufacturing companies, businesses, high tech start-ups, life science companies, governmental units, and not-for-profit organizations. Impacts include significant sales increases, cost reductions, capital investments, and jobs created or saved.

The Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP) Industry Consultant is a subject matter expert who can develop, sell, manage and deliver high-value executive coaching and mentoring, fee-based training, and implementation services focused primarily on the food and beverage manufacturing industry. Sell and deliver services to other manufacturing industries to help the Center reach a diverse base of businesses in Indiana. Focus primarily upon specific manufacturing needs that are of high value to their industry. The decision-making and skill set requires Industry Consultant to be well networked and aligned with local manufacturing, trade organizations, and/or economic initiatives. Interpret needs and create services relevant to industry needs. These projects are impactful and will be delivered via MEP capabilities or other partnering service providers. The Industry Consultant will report to the Lead Service Manager of Quality and have revenue, impact, and service development metrics tracked and measured.

The office location for this position will be within one of Purdue's statewide or partnering facilities with some flex office options in accordance with Purdue policy. Strict adherence to Purdue confidentiality policies is required.



  • Bachelor's degree in Science, Engineering, or Technology
  • Five (5) years experience in a Food & Beverage based manufacturing company or as a consultant to a manufacturing company in the primary industry with five years of experience in continuous improvement, quality, and operational efficiency and/or growth services
  • A valid US or Canadian Driver's license
  • Proven ability to develop and deliver new processes or new services that creates significant economic impact for a manufacturing company in the primary industry (i.e., cost savings, increased sales, growth, new jobs, and new investment)
  • Experience in project management
  • Ability to sell professional services to manufacturing customers
  • Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and Quality Management Systems
  • Ability to manage service support teams
  • Food safety certifications


  • MBA
  • Business development (sales) experience with professional services
  • Experience consulting to manufacturing executives
  • Experience in classroom training
  • Lean Manufacturing Certification
  • Quality certification (s) relative to the Food & Beverage Industry
