We are currently seeking a full-time and onsite Academic Advisor in the Office of Advising & Student Academic Success. The Academic Advisor provides appreciative advising, continuous and empathic support, and strategic direction to students in their assigned student group. The annual salary for this position is $49,236.72.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Formulate and execute on-going communication plans to advisees; track student progress using various software platforms and serve as liaison to academic departments/colleges utilizing efficient and effective communication strategies to collaborate as a wrap-around support team for each individual student.
  • Guide students in developing and maintaining a plan of study that meets degree requirements and fits their timetable for graduation.
  • Maintain a consistent pattern of contact to encourage a trusting relationship through multiple channels of communication.
  • Use analytical data to identify students who might be “at risk” for continued academic success and progress to degree to initiate interactions and develop success strategies to address those challenges.
  • Assess when a situation calls for professional intervention or referral.
  • Complete documentation for proper maintenance of student records.
  • Create and maintain relationships with constituents across the institution.
  • Effectively utilize myBLUEprint, Banner, goPFW, Slate, Navigate, and any other associated technology.
  • Serve as liaison to assigned academic departments/units.
  • Attend departmental meetings as desired by academic unit.
  • Act in a symbiotic relationship ensuring effective collaboration and communication.
  • Serve as local expert in academic areas assigned to assure that students understand and engage in successful matriculation through their major area of study.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • One year academic advising or related experience.
  • Excellent oral/written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong data and computer skills.
  • Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Collection of advising data, as well as analysis and application of the same.
  • Excellent planning, problem-solving, organizational, project management and customer support skills. Excellent verbal, written, and organizational skills.
  • Must be able to lead collaborative groups of faculty, staff, and students.
  • Knowledge of theories and best practices as they apply to academic advising in a university setting.
  • Knowledge of student informational systems (i.e. Banner, Degree Works, Navigate).
  • Basic skills in Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge of programs and majors at Purdue Fort Wayne.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree.
  • 2-5 years of academic advising or related experience.
  • Experience in teaching P-12.
  • Understanding of student development theory.
  • Familiarity with typical student information systems and university software like Banner, Degree Works, Brightspace, and Qualtrics.
