Assistant Athletic Trainer

Your day to day:

  • Work with the Assistant Athletic Director of Sports Medicine, the athletic training staff, and team physicians to deliver a high level of athletic health care for division one intercollegiate athletes.
  • Adhere to and comply with Purdue Fort Wayne University, the Horizon League, and the NCAA applicable rules, policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Oversee the care, prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries to student-athletes.
  • Apply athletic training best practices and procedures in treatments.
  • Participate and assist with the operations and activities of the Athletic Department (e.g. practice and game coverage, athletic events, etc.).
  • Communicate with physicians and coaching staff regarding the injury status of athletes.
  • Assist with the management of the Athletic Training Room budgets, policies, equipment and facilities to maintain optimal health, safety and welfare of all individuals.
  • Attend Athletic and/or Departmental meetings.
  • File insurance claims for athletic injuries. Maintain detailed medical records of student-athletes.
  • Assist team with travel planning related to student-athlete health & wellbeing, as well as driving responsibilities if needed.

  • You worked hard to earn a Bachelor's Degree from a CAAHEP accredited athletic training education program.
  • You have gained at least one year of experience in Sports Medicine, Physical Therapy, and/or Athletic Training.
  • You possess NATA-BOC certification and Indiana Athletic Training License, Indiana Physical Therapy License if applicant has Physical Therapy Degree. 
  • You are able to carry and lift coolers of ice, water and medical equipment.
  • You must have a valid driver’s license and remain in compliance with the Purdue University Motor Vehicle Records policy.
