Director of Multimedia

The Director of Multimedia develops and executes a variety of highly creative, multi-media solutions to support and help strategically communicate some of the top priorities of the university–including public relations, brand development, social media, fundraising, recruitment, special events, and the student experience. The position serves as an integral member of the senior team in the central Office of Marketing and Communications and serves as the creative lead and project manager on key video- and photography-based projects. Responsible for ensuring the strategic, creative, and quality-based execution of all multimedia content, and utilizing project management skills and coordinated deployment of assets across multiple platforms, projects, and initiatives. Manages a highly talented full-time campus photographer and coordinates additional multimedia activity and direction through other department colleagues, external vendors, and partners across the institution.


Your day to day:

  • Develops innovative, inclusive, creative, high-touch, high-quality, strategic multimedia solutions — message-driven and image-based — to support communications and marketing objectives for Purdue Fort Wayne.
  • Assists in the initial development of creative concepts; creates storyboards; writes, edits, and adapts scripts; and seeks appropriate input at key points during production.
  • Interviews a diverse group of faculty, staff, students, and alumni to ensure strategic messaging — and conceives, organizes, conducts, and directs video and photo shoots to ensure optimum results. Helps prepare and direct project briefing documents and coordinates and communicates strategies and status of deliverables.
  • Helps direct, along with strong and direct hands-on skills, the conception, editing, execution, planning, and organization for a wide variety of multimedia and photography projects. Works as project and creative manager on assigned projects and relies on effective collaborations to deliver final products. Identifies, secures, and adheres to reviews through key steps in projects.
  • Works creatively with the other Communications and Marketing department team leaders in marketing, design, editorial and content management, web services, media relations, and social media for proper integration of visual brand, specifications, design, and content objectives across a variety of mediums and platforms (print, digital, social media, online, and live performance).


  • Creates and monitors the development of team-based reports, video and photo activity logs, and helps ensure clear communication of updates and status to other project management teams.
  • Helps manage and monitor a multi-faceted process of scheduling and scouting of locations, stays abreast of relevant university events for coverage and documentary opportunities. Identifies and suggests opportunities for content and coverage and provides appropriate follow-up.
  • Deploys highly effective, innovative, and current video and photography skills, including all the various editing, lighting, styling, special effects, motion graphics, image structure and formats required, as well as the execution knowledge, specifications, and project management technology and tools to support and communicate projects and functions.
  • Manages and monitors the archiving, storage, and retrieval functions of a large database of critical photo and video assets. Recommends and develops best practice management solutions for all related office operations.
  • Establishes standards and frameworks to produce quality multimedia communications for specific web and social media campaigns to enhance results and viewership.
  • Helps create and strategically direct university presence and content on major video sharing platforms such as YouTube, as well as on university-maintained web sites featuring relevant image assets in both photography and video.
  • Manages and identifies state-of-the-art equipment and production resources and ongoing maintenance and acquisitions needs.
  • Stays abreast of rapidly evolving technology and media platforms and stays current on training for all aspects of the various software, hardware, and processes for multimedia production and online communication.
  • Supervises video and photography staff, students, and a variety of freelance vendors as needed, including, hiring, performance evaluations, and other recommendations.
  • The position sometimes requires presence and commitment before 8 a.m., after 5 p.m., and on weekends, both on and off campus. Some local and regional travel may be required for meetings, events, and conferences.
  • This position may be required to be in communication with other Office of Communications and Marketing staff and senior administrators, and/or perform key work tasks in off-hours or off-location conditions as required to execute special projects or critical communications as conditions may demand.

  • Demonstrated ability to translate messages into strategic visual solutions across multiple mediums.
  • Demonstrated ability to think creatively, solve problems, plan directions, overcome obstacles, and successfully negotiate with individuals and groups.
  • Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively within a team-environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in creating strategic multimedia communications, supported by a strong portfolio.



  • All current industry standard programs for editing and enhancing video such as, but not limited to, After Effects, Premier, Final Cut Pro and Adobe Creative Suite
  • Standard MS Office suite software such as Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Leading industry-standard image editing and file management programs, including Photoshop, Acrobat, Adobe Bridge.
  • Photographic and video project management.
  • Digital image manipulation for video, web, and print.
  • Digital asset management and image and footage tagging.
