Student Housing Custodian

Purdue University Fort Wayne is seeking a Day Shift Student Housing Custodian.


The Work: What type of work will you be doing? What assignments, requirements, or skills will you be performing on a regular basis?

  • Perform all related custodial duties during day shift for Student Housing Facilities. 
  • Responsible for cleanliness of assigned areas including floor maintenance, snow and ice removal, special events set up, furniture moving, etc.
  • Typical routine daily cleaning duties include, but are not limited to: dust and wet mopping, sweeping and vacuuming, removing trash, cleaning partitions, walls, windows, tables, black/white boards, etc.
  • Areas to be cleaned include, but are not limited to: apartments, classrooms, offices, restrooms, stairwells, hallways, lounges, laundry facilities, elevators, etc.
  • Ensure Clubhouse / Commons restrooms maintain adequate supplies including towels and soap.
  • Perform operation of basic cleaning equipment such as vacuum cleaners.
  • Typical non-routine cleaning duties include, but are not limited to: stripping and refinishing floors, scrubbing floors, cleaning carpets, vents and waste cans, and changing accessible light bulbs, turning rooms, etc.
  • Inform supervisor of needed repairs for equipment and facilities.      
  • Shovel snow at building entrance areas.
  • Assist with setting up tables and chairs for special events and Student Housing.


What are the position essentials required as a Custodian?

  • High School Diploma/GED.
  • Ability to operate commercial floor care equipment and climb ladders. 
  • Must be able to move, lift, carry, push and pull 10 to 25 pounds frequently and up to 40 pounds occasionally.


What are the additional preferred requirements of a Custodian?

  • Knowledge of commercial cleaning methods, materials and equipment.
  • Custodial experience.
