Job Summary
Purdue Grounds Department is looking for an undergraduate student working toward a degree in Landscape Architecture, Horticulture, Construction Management, Computer Graphics Technology, Management Information Systems, or related field of study.
The student position provides support to the Grounds Department through on-site activities supporting data collection, creation and maintenance of campus basemap data. Activities would include researching projects for updates, field verification and the collection of data and/or measurements. The student would use ArcGIS software and CAD software (MicroStation/AutoCAD) to create and update base maps and supporting data. This position would also include the development and maintenance of library of datasets, documentation, and training resources. Strong analytical, spatial reasoning, and data management skills are necessary.
As a Grounds Coordinator, you will:
- Research current and past projects for data to document campus land use in basemap data
- Visits campus sites to perform field verification and collect or validate data
- Read and interpret drawings and data to create and maintain base map data
- Organize, coordinate and perform data collection for identified initiatives
- Create maps and document information of the campus environment using GIS and CAD to develop dashboards
- Perform general technical troubleshooting and give consultation to project management personnel
- Good understanding of database objects, related utilities and creation of tools (tables, indexes, etc.)
