Job Summary

The Marketing and Communication Specialist for the College of Engineering at Purdue University in Indianapolis will advance awareness, affinity, demand and engagement for Purdue Engineering in Indianapolis through marketing and communication excellence. This role is responsible for conceptualizing and producing on-brand creative content that includes storytelling (writing and editing) and multimedia assets (design, video, social media) to promote Purdue College of Engineering educational programs, research and related activities in Indianapolis. A successful candidate will be a self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced environment, can balance multiple projects and meet deadlines, exhibits creative skills and has innovative ideas to effectively support recruitment, improve student yield and drive future enrollment growth in Indianapolis.

 

A proven record of creative problem solving, adaptability and a collaborative spirit will be essential as this position will work with faculty, administration and students at Purdue University in Indianapolis as well as members of the undergraduate engineering communications team, the graduate and professional engineering teams, the College of Engineering marcom team, engineering schools that have Indianapolis majors (biomedical, electrical and computer, industrial, and mechanical), the Office of Future Engineers, Purdue Brand Studio and Enrollment Management Strategic Communications and Initiatives.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Lead Indianapolis storytelling and marcom efforts for the College of Engineering in Indianapolis through writing, editing, marketing collateral and multimedia assets.
  • Includes crafting engaging stories that highlight student achievements in engineering majors, EPICS and VIP pathways, faculty and research opportunities, and graduate degree programs that raise the visibility of Purdue Engineering in Indianapolis and that may be used for undergraduate and graduate recruiting purposes.
  • Support undergraduate and graduate recruiting and yield efforts, which may include developing and executing live broadcasts, webinars, and Instagram and YouTube content focused on Indianapolis audiences.
  • Manage and execute Indianapolis specific Slate content. 
  • Track, evaluate and report on the effectiveness of communications and digital outreach efforts related to Indianapolis initiatives.
  • Ensure brand standards are followed and consistent throughout all mediums; integrate brand content across channels and audiences, which include prospective students; faculty; alumni/donors; industry, government, academic partners; various stakeholders; and campus audiences.

What We're Looking For:

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, journalism, public relations or a related field
  • Five (5) years or more of solid, progressively responsible related professional experience
  • Portfolio demonstrating samples of work in storytelling, photography, design, video production or social media

 

Skills needed:

  • Strong interpersonal skills with a charismatic and engaging presence
  • Create audience-focused content tailored to different media
  • Ability to understand and follow set communications strategy
  • Exceptional communication, organizational and time-management skills with strong attention to detail
  • Marketing/promotional writing experience
  • Consistent quality control in work
  • Align communications with brand guidelines
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines
  • Experience collaborating with creative teams
  • Experience working within a team encompassing the full range of communicators, including strategists, graphic designers, web developers, writers/editors and event coordinators
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with strong attention to detail and excellent follow-through in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Team player with the ability to clearly communicate ideas both internally and to campus partners, including receiving and giving feedback
  • Able to work independently in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities  
  • Ability to influence and build strong working relationships at all levels in the organization
  • Deep understanding of branding, digital marketing, content strategy and reputation management
