Job Summary

Orientation Programs at Purdue University facilitate experiences where new students are welcomed “All Aboard Purdue,” a four-step process to start their journey as Boilermakers. The four steps are interconnected to help transition incoming undergraduate students to campus each year. 

 

Reporting to the Senior Assistant Director of Orientation Programs in Indianapolis, the Program Coordinator supports orienting and onboarding new undergraduate students to be successful at Purdue University in Indianapolis, Purdue’s new urban campus. As a member of the team, the Program Coordinator joins a dedicated staff committed to innovating and continuously moving programs and experiences forward for new students and staff. This team actively keeps diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts at the forefront of their work. Seeking to understand the experiences of students, with the desire to think critically and thoughtfully about supporting the mission of introducing and connecting all new undergraduate students to Purdue University, is critical in this role. 

 

As an integral member of the team, a Program Coordinator supports, and develops professionally through the support of other office programs by being active in the implementation of Purdue Welcome programs in Indianapolis for undergraduate students beginning at fall, spring, and summer terms. As part of this team, other office, departmental, and university initiatives may be required or encouraged. 

 

This role works closely with the implementation of orientation and onboarding, including but not limited to the development of undergraduate student leader recruitment, training, curriculum, and support. Ultimately, providing leadership, guidance, mentorship, supervision, and development as needed for students. This position also works directly with the collection and organization of information from campus partners, improving the experience for incoming students, program assessment annually and longitudinally, and critical attention to student progress. On-site event planning, staff management, student staff logistics, and general program execution are also key functions of this role. This position effectively and independently collaborates with many internal partners to produce successful orientation programming. 

 

The targeted salary range for this position is $42,500 - $47,500. This position is fully in-person and located physically in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate on the implementation of Purdue Welcome programs for fall, spring, and summer terms
  • Develop and support undergraduate student leaders through recruitment, training, and mentorship
  • Collect and organize information from campus partners to enhance the student experience
  • Contribute to program assessment and continuous improvement efforts
  • Provide critical attention to student progress and success
  • Manage on-site event planning, staff logistics, and program execution
  • Collaborate effectively with internal partners to produce successful orientation programming

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Two years of professional experience working in a university setting
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and project management skills
  • Professional writing and editing skills
  • Basic computer, communication (verbal & written), and presentation skills
  • Ability to balance interruptions, multiple and varied tasks, and confidential information with discretion
  • Creativity and professionalism 
  • Ability to take the initiative to solve problems, assume responsibility, and establish and maintain quality standards
  • Ability to work in a flexible, fast-paced, positive team atmosphere

 

 

Preferred:

  • Master’s Degree
  • Experience in a college orientation or first year programs setting
  • Experience supervising undergraduate students and supporting student development
  • Experience supporting projects, event planning and management, and/or curriculum development

 

Purdue’s Compensation: 

  • The salary range for this position is $42,500 - $47,500
