Job Summary

Office of Student and Community Engagement Student Ambassador 

The Student/Work Study Student(s) in this role will support the Office of Student and Community Engagement by helping create welcoming, engaging, and connected experiences for Purdue University in Indianapolis students. Student Ambassadors serve as peer representatives of the office and assist with student programming, outreach, The Launch Pad, campus events, and community engagement initiatives.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Greeting students, visitors, campus partners, and community guests in The Launch Pad and at Office of Student and Community Engagement programs and events

  • Assisting students with identifying campus resources, engagement opportunities, student organizations, and appropriate referrals to university offices

  • Supporting the planning, promotion, setup, implementation, and follow-up for student engagement programs, workshops, leadership activities, and special events

  • Assisting with The Launch Pad operations, including maintaining a welcoming and organized environment, tracking supplies, supporting student use of the space, and helping communicate available resources and opportunities

  • Representing the Office of Student and Community Engagement at campus, community, recruitment, and K–12 engagement events

  • Supporting outreach activities through tabling, peer-to-peer communication, event check-in, distribution of materials, and follow-up with participants

  • Assisting with communications and promotional efforts, including drafting content, updating materials, supporting social media initiatives, and sharing event information with students

  • Supporting administrative and operational tasks, including data entry, attendance tracking, document preparation, inventory, room setup, cleanup, and special projects

  • Participating in ambassador training, team meetings, and professional development opportunities

  • Serving as a positive peer leader who demonstrates professionalism, reliability, inclusion, and a commitment to student belonging and success

Requirements

  • Current Purdue University student in good academic standing

  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills

  • Demonstrated customer service skills and ability to interact professionally with students, families, faculty, staff, and community partners

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a student team

  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple tasks

  • Reliability, punctuality, and willingness to take initiative

  • Comfort using AI, Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and use appropriate judgment when assisting students and handling office information

  • Ability to work occasional evenings or weekends based on event and program needs

  • Interest in student leadership, community engagement, campus involvement, and creating a strong sense of belonging for Purdue University in Indianapolis students
