Includes days, weekends, evenings, overnights, and holidays. Must be able to return to campus approximately 2 weeks before classes start in the fall and spring semesters to attend required training and stay through Senior Week (the week following finals) in May.

Job Description
The primary role of the SOC position is to supervise other student staff at University Residences in Indianapolis by overseeing scheduling and training of student staff. Further, this role is responsible for shift coverage and support to the University Residences leadership team. The goal of this position is to give students valuable real-world experience in a higher education housing office environment. This position should work 10-15 hours per week during the current semester. Those hours may be worked in any combination, at the discretion of the direct supervisor. The position must be reliable, organized, responsible, and flexible. They must also be ambitious, detail-oriented, creative, and driven.
Prerequisite(s)
The ideal candidate will be knowledgeable in basic MS Office skills in addition to having worked previously within University Residences.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent and minimum of one semester of college coursework successfully completed
Must be actively enrolled at Purdue University.
Previous work experience within University Residences
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written
Flexible and dependable with a strong attention to detail
Ability to multi-task and work within deadlines
Ability to work independently and with a team
Be timely and organized
Previous supervisory/leadership experience preferred
Proficiency in Microsoft Office
Problem solving, logic and reasoning skills
Position Responsibilities
- Prepare, post, and maintain employee schedules as directed by supervising staff
- Assist with training of employees
- Coach, counsel, and discipline employees as needed via one-on-one meetings with staff throughout the academic year
- Maintain safety and risk management standards of the department
- Exercise accountability for proper handling and security of all issued keys, safe access, etc.
- Exhibit friendliness, diplomacy, and tact in responding to customers
- Handle emergency situations and prioritize responsibilities while continuing to provide the highest level of customer service to residents
- Maintain competency in the operation, including proper check-in/check-out procedures for residents and checking out equipment as appropriate
- Exercise accountability for the proper handling and security of all issued keys, safe access, as well as hall property (i.e., hall equipment).
- Maintain confidentiality and exhibit professional conduct when handling sensitive information and report violations of university and/or University Residences policy when observed.
- Serve and participate on committees within the division to provide feedback from a student lens
- Present ideas to division senior leadership as identified
- Responsible for all scheduled shifts (based on class/exam schedules for the semester)
- Must attend all scheduled staff meetings to gain and/or share pertinent information
- Other duties as assigned
