Job Summary

Collaborate with faculty to design and develop online, hybrid, and face-to-face courses. Contribute to project management of course development processes, collaborating with faculty, video producers, and other various stakeholders to communicate relevant information and ensure progress towards timelines. Communicate with faculty and SMEs and contribute to the design and building of digital course content in the learning management system (LMS). Assist with curriculum development and use practical pedagogical knowledge to integrate teaching and learning technology tools. Participate in the design, development, facilitation, and support of professional development activities offered to faculty in adopting best practices in teaching and learning. Support the implementation of Purdue's award-winning IMPACT program by partnering with the Center for Instructional Excellence and Libraries to guide faculty through their course redesign to incorporate self-determination theory and student-centered learning practices into their design.

 

This is a hybrid position. Candidates must live within a reasonable driving distance of the West Lafayette campus.

What We’re Looking For:

Education and Experience
Qualified candidates will need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education or an education-related field
  • Two (2) years of experience that includes: One year of instructional design experience working with faculty or SMEs in a higher education environment, or corporate training and development designing, development, and supporting delivery of courses offered via a learning management system (LMS), and 1-2 years of teaching and/or instructional technology experience.

 

Skills: 

  • Knowledge in applying learning theory and pedagogy to develop authentic learning experiences. Knowledge and application of best practices using technology for teaching and learning, including but not limited to, multimedia development, virtual conferencing, learning management systems, social learning, online collaborative tools, mobile solutions for education, and the integration of AI in learning design.
  • Ability to use one or more eLearning authoring tool (e.g., Articulate RISE, Camtasia, Captivate, Articulate Storyline).
  • Ability to project manage and communicate up the course development process/progress.
  • Highly developed communication skills (oral, written, and interpersonal) and empathy with the demonstrated ability to work effectively with multiple constituencies in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment.
  • A desire to grow and develop and upskill as the changing ecosystem of instructional design evolves.
  • Ability to build relationships and trust with faculty and SMEs through the instructional design process.

 

Nice to Have: 

  • Master’s degree in Instructional Design, Learning Design, or Curriculum and Educational Technology
  • Teaching experience in higher education, preferably in online & blended environments.
  • Experience designing and delivering faculty professional development in a higher education setting.
  • Course building in multiple learning management systems.
  • Integration of AI in teaching and learning.
  • Knowledge of and the ability to apply universal design for learning, and accessibility standards for online learning environments, as well as familiarity with assistive technologies used with course design, development and delivery.
  • Familiarity with copyright laws and Creative Commons and how they pertain to courses.
