Job Summary

The mission of the ISBDC (Indiana Small Business Development Center) Network is to have a positive and measurable impact on the formation, growth, and sustainability of small businesses in Indiana, and to develop a strong entrepreneurial community.

 

As the Regional Director, you will manage day-to-day operations of a Regional ISBDC (Indiana Small Business Development Center) to meet ISBDC counseling, training and other performance goals, program objectives and contractual agreements.  In addition, you will represent the ISBDC in the community and report to the ISBDC Host with a dotted line relationship to the Lead Center.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Managing and operating the ISBDC in accordance with all applicable policies, procedures, laws, regulations, and other governing documents
  • Managing, supervising and coaching ISBDC staff
  • Selecting, training, managing and evaluating ISBDC personnel and reporting center results (including economic impact information of clients), submiting periodic reports and maintaining center records in accordance with the Indiana ISBDC Network policies and procedures and applicable OMB circulars
  • Developing, administering and managing the Center’s budget in accordance with host institution, IEDC and Small Business Administration (SBA) guidelines
  • Forecasting future needs and recommending strategies for fund development. This includes securing financial support from agencies, organizations and other appropriate entities to meet the federal funding match requirements
  • Building and managing relationships with existing stakeholders, especially ISBDC Host, acquiring new stakeholders and ensuring satisfaction as well as creating brand awareness of the ISBDC throughout region through speaking engagements, committee work and community engagement
  • Developing and maintaining strong liaisons with business/community/government agencies and organizations that are involved with the improvement of the local business climate as well regional ISBDC strategic planning initiatives in conjunction with ISBDC Lead Center and network
  • Providing oversight for building client relationships with existing clients and acquiring new clients
  • Overseeing and achieving client satisfaction by delivering SBDC and related programs and services to the center’s clients with a high level of performance
  • Attending and participating in a variety of workshops, seminars and meetings
  • Serving on committees and advisory boards, as appropriate
  • Setting performance expectations and reviewing performance regularly with regional team members
  • Using performance data to continuously improve regional performance
  • Gathering and analyzing data to evaluate the performance of the region
  • Using this data to implement continuous improvement initiatives to meet and exceed ISBDC goals and objectives
  • Providing oversight and expertise in grants and project development
  • Providing leadership and setting direction on business issues throughout the region and provide input to federal, state and local agencies
  • Providing small business assistance including one-to-one client counseling in the area of business plan development
  • Analyzing, preparing and structuring financial statements such as cash flow projections, income statements and balance sheets
  • Providing assistance in automated and manual record keeping systems
  • Assisting clients with market related issues such as business development, sales strategies, advertising, promotional functions, market surveys and other related areas
  • Providing assistance with  loan applications

What We're Looking For:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in business or a related field
  • 4 years of senior management experience in a private sector setting 
  • 2 years of ownership or senior management of a small business
  • Experience in working with senior leaders in business and the community
  • Experience in both private and public sector
  • Direct experience in developing and facilitating strategic planning sessions with clients
  • Experience in the following computer systems: Microsoft Office products such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Use of the Internet, Canva, CRM software, etc.
  • Public speaking experience and well-developed communication skills

 

Nice to Have: 

  • Master of Business Administration or master’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in business or related field or equivalent business experience
  • Direct experience providing information, advice counsel and training to business
