Job Summary

As the Landscape Specialist, you will:

  • Provide quick response to perform various grounds maintenance work as identified by higher supervisory authority.
  • Perform landscape project work including irrigation system design and installation, hardscapes, softscapes, and turf establishment after building construction.
  • Execute targeted maintenance for special events and projects.
  • Contribute to maintaining Purdue's $600 million research enterprise by ensuring a well-maintained campus environment conducive to innovation and discovery.

What We Are Looking For

Education and Experience
Qualified candidates will need:

  • High School diploma/GED required.
  • Four years' experience in grounds maintenance or closely related field required.

 

Skills needed:

  • Good work organizational skills required.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills needed.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills necessary.
  • Ability to read blueprints required. Computer skills preferred.
  • Experience in landscape and turf irrigation systems is preferred.
  • Equipment operation (i.e. backhoe, bobcat, tree spade, tractors, mowers, etc.) required.
  • Knowledge of greenhouse operations, propagation methods, insect/disease control, proper nutrition, growth habits and pruning methods for annual flowers, interior plants, and ornamental trees and shrubs required.
  • Knowledge of growth habits, fertilizers, pesticides, equipment, etc. used in turf maintenance and construction necessary.
  • Working knowledge of hard surface maintenance and repair desired.
  • Working knowledge of turf irrigation and drip irrigation desired.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Indiana Pesticide Applicator's License (3A, 3B) or ability to obtain required.
