Job Summary

 

Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine (PVM), Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences (VCS), invites applications for a full-time, Lecturer position in Small Animal Internal Medicine and Nephrology/Urology. The successful candidate has the option to complete an ACVNU residency with the goal of becoming a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Nephrology & Urology.

Purdue University has a strong existing program in Small Animal Internal Medicine, and the successful applicant will join a team of 8 ACVIM-boarded internists (6 full time, 2 part time). The dedicated Nephrology/Urology Service runs alongside the Small Animal Internal Medicine Service and is supported by 3 faculty, 2 of which are Founding members of the ACVNU.

The Small Animal Internal Medicine and Nephrology/Urology Service is well supported by a team of board-certified specialists in other areas including anesthesiology, behavior, cardiology, clinical and anatomic pathology, diagnostic imaging, emergency and critical care, neurology, oncology, ophthalmology, physical therapy and rehabilitation, surgery, and toxicology. 

Qualifications

Qualifications for the position includes a DVM or equivalent degree and board certification or completion of a residency program registered by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM) or the European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ECVIM). The successful candidate will participate in a shared on-call service for urologic emergencies and extracorporeal therapies and provide on occasion weekend back up for the Small Animal Internal Medicine Service. Candidates must have the ability to work in the US without immigration sponsorship from Purdue University. Salary will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience. A background check is required for employment by the University.

General Information

The Small Animal Internal Medicine Service performs a wide variety of procedures and has dedicated rooms for GI and respiratory endoscopy. These procedures are supported by equipment including Olympus and Storz endoscopes, 64-slice CT scanner, and 1.5T MRI. The Nephrology/Urology Service is fully equipped to provide interventional urology procedures as well as extracorporeal therapies. The facilities include a state of the art interventional suite with c-arm fluoroscopy, rigid and flexible STORZ endoscopy, Convergent Ho:Ya laser and urodynamic equipment. The service performs a wide variety of urologic procedures including cystoscopy, laser lithotripsy, laser ablation of ectopic ureters, ureter and urethral stents, SUB placement (in conjunction with our surgery team) and urodynamic testing. There is a dedicated hemodialysis room with 2 Phoenix intermittent hemodialysis machines, and a Prismaflex platform to offer intermittent and prolonged intermittent hemodialysis, hemoperfusion and therapeutic plasma exchange.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will actively participate in delivery of clinical service, clinical training, and didactic teaching in the Veterinary Hospital and VCS department of PVM. Clinical Service: Providing clinical service to small animal patients of the Purdue Veterinary Hospital with a time commitment of 65-70%, including supervising veterinary students, veterinary nursing students, and house officers; and building strong relationships with referring veterinarians. Clinical commitment to the service would be a 20% commitment to general internal medicine, and a 45-50% commitment to nephrology/urology. Back up emergency call is shared with other faculty. Learning: Excellent clinical, didactic and laboratory instruction of veterinary students, veterinary nursing students, house officers, and graduate students. The successful candidate will not be responsible for creation of an independent research program, but is encouraged to participate in collaborative research where appropriate.

The Purdue University Veterinary Hospital recently completed a major expansion project. The new David and Bonnie Brunner Purdue Veterinary Medical Hospital Complex added 65,000 square feet to the existing small animal hospital facilities in Lynn Hall of Veterinary Medicine. The hospital complex provides state of the art facilities dedicated to educating the next generation of veterinary professionals, enabling faculty and staff to provide top quality compassionate animal health care, and serve as a catalyst for interdisciplinary clinical research.
