Job Summary
The Department of Food Science at Purdue University invites applications for a full-time Lecturer position specializing in Food and Fermentation Microbiology. This role is dedicated to excellence in teaching, with a focus on delivering high-quality instruction in both undergraduate and graduate courses. The successful candidate will play a critical role in shaping the academic experience of students pursuing careers in food science and microbiology, with an emphasis on fermentation processes.
Responsibilities
- Teaching (100%)
- Develop and deliver undergraduate and graduate courses in Food Microbiology, Fermentation Microbiology, and related areas. These are some of the examples of courses: Food Microbiology, Fermentation Microbiology, Fermentation Microbiology Lab, Fermentation Capstone, Fermentation Seminar Course, Food/Plant Sanitation, Lab of Food/Plant Sanitation, and Fermentation Products Selection.
- Engage in the continuous development and improvement of course curricula to ensure relevance and rigor.
- Supervise and mentor students in laboratory settings and research projects related to Food and Fermentation Microbiology.
- Collaborate with faculty on the development of innovative teaching methods and materials.
- Participate in departmental service activities, including committee work and outreach initiatives.
- Stay current with trends and advancements in Food and Fermentation Microbiology to integrate into teaching and course development.
Required
- Experience and interest in advancing student learning for the food science and fermentation science programs
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
- Ability to engage and inspire a diverse student body.
Preferred
- Prior experience teaching courses related to food microbiology and fermentation.
- Record of effective teaching methodologies and curriculum development.
- Experience with online and hybrid teaching formats.
Appointment and Salary
The position offers a flexible appointment as either a full-time or part-time Lecturer, depending on the candidate's availability and the department's needs. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. A background check will be required for employment in this position.

Education
- Earned master's degree in food science, microbiology, or closely related field with a strong focus on fermentation and food microbiology by date of appointment
