Job Summary

Lecturer Position in Computer Science

The Department of Computer Science in the College of Science at Purdue University solicits applications for a staff Lecturer position. CS Lecturers teach service courses to non-CS students. The position is a non-faculty rank, staff teaching position, with continuing appointment. 

The Department and University

The Department of Computer Science has approximately 5,000 undergraduate and graduate students.  Many students in other majors have interest or are required to take a programming language course to fulfill degree requirements.  Annually the department teaches over 5,000 such students.  

Purdue University is Indiana’s land grant university, enrolling nearly 55,000 students at its main West Lafayette campus.  The university offers over 200 undergraduate majors in 10 academic colleges, including Science, the Polytechnic Institute, Engineering, and Agriculture.  The Computer Science Department is housed in the College of Science.

Education

Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree in a computing field with experience in software development and teaching.  A master’s degree is preferred. 

Experience

Experience coding in at least one of the following languages: C, C++, Java, or Python and experience teaching large courses preferred. Applicants should be committed to excellence in teaching, can teach programming courses in C and Python, have an enthusiasm for teaching and interaction with students, have an interest in online development and delivery of courses, and have an interest in advising student team projects.
