Library Assistant

Job Summary

The Library Assistant is responsible for the bibliographic control and records management for volumes stored in the Libraries’ print repository facilities. In this position you will receive serials and monographs from libraries and resolve discrepancies as necessary. You will create, maintain, and modify records to reflect accurate holding information and perform inventory and barcoding duties. This position will utilizing retrieval system, process patron requests for materials held in storage. You also direct student assistants as needed. 

 

This temporary position is being created to assist with the move of Print Repositories : from Hicks and Lynn buildings TO 2550/the old State Farm building (across from the WL Walmart). We are excited about the move as we will have increased space, the collection will be in one building, and an overall upgraded work environment.  This position has a term limit of 3 years.

What We're Looking For:

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma/GED 
  • Three (3) years of library, customer service, or general office experience
  • With at least one year of library service required

 

Preferred:

  • Associates or Bachelor's degree in Library Science, Computer Technology, or related field.

 

Skills Needed:

  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills 
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills 
  • Must be well organized and able to pay attention to detail  
  • Able to work independently and with others
  • Intermediate skills with MS Word, Excel, Outlook
  • Ex Libris Alma or other ILS experience a plus
  • Ability to:
    • adjust to a rapidly changing environment. Sound judgment and decision-making
    • work independently. Ability to identify and solve problems
       

Preferred:

  • Experience with database and/or library management systems.
  • Ex Libris Alma experience is a plus
