What You'll be Doing:
Serve as an Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) Technician VIII supporting the IAQ group, Central Shops, and campus Zones. This position applies advanced technical skills obtained through formal training and the IAQ Apprenticeship Program in areas including Temperature Controls, Mechanical Systems Controls, Direct Digital Controls (DDC), Electronic Control Systems, Testing and Balancing, and Fume Hood Balancing.
Responsibilities include installing, calibrating, testing, troubleshooting, and performing diagnostic work on pneumatic and DDC control systems for new construction, renovations, and equipment upgrades. The technician will install and adjust controls used to regulate temperature, humidity, pressure, water flow, and airflow; route and connect electrical conductors and components; and test and balance systems to ensure proper operation and performance.
Additional duties include performing preventative maintenance and troubleshooting on heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems; analyzing hardware and software issues within electronic control systems; terminating controls in new buildings; and training Level 6 and 7 technicians.
This position may require overtime, carrying a pager, and responding to 24-hour callback situations.
This position represents a dual-level posting and will be filled as Indoor Air Quality Technician (SK2) or Senior Indoor Air Quality Technician (SK3). The hiring manager will determine the job level based on the skills, experience, and qualifications of the selected candidate.

Education and Experience (SK2)
Qualified Candidates Will Need:
- High School Diploma/GED
- 3+ years of experience in heating, ventilation and air conditioning controls or other related area
- Valid driver's license
Skills Needed:
- Must have the ability to successfully complete Module five and six of the Indoor Air Quality Apprenticeship program within 24 months of employment in this position to be promoted to a level 9 (IAQT)
- A strong mechanical aptitude
- Knowledge of electrical control systems; heating, ventilation, air conditioning units, fan coil units; chilled water and steam distribution equipment and fume hoods
- Must have knowledge of mechanical and direct digital controls
- Will be expected to utilize computer programs to trouble shoot DDC controls
- Good oral and written communication skills
- Must be able to perform basic mathematical calculations and interpret technical material and be able to use various formulas to calculate proper system settings
- The ability to read and interpret various types of blueprints and control schematics is necessary
- Basic computer skills and a familiarity with word processors and spreadsheets
- Must be able to lift and carry 25 to 50 lbs. frequently, and up to 60 lbs. or more occasionally
- Exposed to adverse conditions such as electrical hazards, extreme cold and heat, confined spaces and working from heights
- Personal protective equipment required during specific operations
- General knowledge of more than one skilled craft preferred
Education and Experience (SK3)
Qualified Candidates Will Need:
- 4+ years of experience in mechanical systems( heating ventilation and air conditioning systems), direct digital controls, pneumatics or related field
- Valid driver's license
- Previous experience in a clean room environment strongly preferred
Skills Needed:
- Must pass all applicable training required for performing maintenance within the Nano-Technology building and associated clean rooms
- Successfully complete the apprenticeship program within six years of employment date, including but not limited to completing Birck training matrix and safety training
- Strong oral and written communication skills and mechanical aptitude
- Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations and interpret technical material
- Ability to use various formulas to calculate proper system settings
- Knowledge of electrical control systems, heating, ventilation, air conditioning units, fan coil units, chilled water and steam distribution equipment, fume hoods and both mechanical and direct digital controls
- Ability to successfully complete any supervisory training courses as directed
- Computer skills, familiarity with word processor and spreadsheets
- Ability to read and interpret various types of blueprints and control schematics a must
- Exposed to adverse conditions such as electrical hazards, extreme cold and heat, confined spaces and working from heights
- Personal protective equipment required during specific operations
- Must be able to lift and carry 50 to 80 lbs. frequently, and up to 100 lbs. or more occasionally
- Knowledge of the practices and procedures necessary to perform work in the Nano-Technology building and clean rooms preferred
- General knowledge of one or more skilled crafts preferred
