Job Summary

The ECSO Lab in the Department of Biological Sciences at Purdue University is looking for a motivated and independent postdoctoral researcher with an interest in evolutionary biology and systems biology. The position is for a minimum of 2 years (extendable to 3 years). The start date is flexible and can be as early as December 2024. The proposed project is funded by the John Templeton Foundation and aims to investigate the evolutionary trajectory of nascent genes and their energetic costs in experimentally evolved populations. The ideal candidate should have prior experience and/or a strong interest in conducting genome and transcriptome sequencing and analysis, ribosome profiling (Ribo-Seq), and mass spectrometry-based proteomics. Education

The applicant should have:

  • a PhD, or is expected to complete a PhD within a year, in molecular biology, biochemistry, systems biology, evolutionary biology, or a related field,
  • an interest in evolutionary biology and systems biology,
  • an interest in learning/implementing new ‘omics techniques,
  • excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and
  • an interest in mentoring students and collaborating with other trainees.

Experience

The ideal candidate should have some previous experience in:

  • preparing and sequencing Illumina and/or Nanopore sequencing libraries, or
  • implementing and optimizing Ribo-Seq or ribosome profiling, or
  • analyzing large-scale genomic data (e.g., entire genomes and transcriptomes).
