Job Summary
Postdoctoral Research Associate Position – Machine learning approaches in neurodegenerative diseases
The Baloni Lab (PI: Dr. Priyanka Baloni) in the School of Health Sciences at Purdue University is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Researcher to join our team. Our group focuses on understanding molecular mechanisms and metabolic signatures in Alzheimer’s disease (AD) through computational and systems biology approaches.
The postdoctoral researcher will lead projects that apply machine learning and advanced computational modeling to integrate multi-omics, clinical, and imaging data for biomarker discovery and mechanistic insights in AD. The position offers opportunities to contribute to collaborative, multi-disciplinary initiatives, including large-scale consortia and translational projects.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and apply machine learning and statistical models to study age-, sex-, and stage-specific signatures in Alzheimer’s disease.
- Analyze high-dimensional multi-omics datasets (genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics) and clinical outcomes.
- Collaborate with experimentalists, clinicians, and computational researchers across institutions.
- Prepare manuscripts, present findings at conferences, and contribute to grant applications.
Qualifications:
- PhD in computational biology, biomedical engineering, bioinformatics, computer science, statistics, or a related field.
- Strong background in machine learning, data integration, and high-dimensional data analysis.
- Experience with Python and/or R; familiarity with deep learning frameworks is a plus.
- Demonstrated record of research productivity (publications, conference presentations).
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work in an interdisciplinary environment.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with neuroscience or Alzheimer’s disease research.
- Familiarity with genome-scale metabolic modeling or network biology approaches.
Application Instructions:
Interested candidates should send a cover letter, CV, and contact information for 2–3 references to Dr. Priyanka Baloni at pbaloni@purdue.edu. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled.
