Job Summary

The School of Languages and Cultures in Purdue University's College of Liberal Arts invites applications for a full-time academic year, Postdoctoral Researcher in Korean Studies beginning August 17, 2026. The position is affiliated with the Purdue Interdisciplinary Center for Korean Studies (PICKS) and supported by the Academy of Korean Studies (AKS).

Working closely with the Director of the Korean Program and the Purdue Interdisciplinary Center for Korean Studies (PICKS), the successful candidate will engage in research, teaching, student mentorship, and academic initiatives within a collaborative and interdisciplinary environment.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct collaborative, externally funded research in Korean Studies and contribute to scholarly publications, grant-funded projects, and the mentorship of undergraduate researchers.
  • Actively contribute to the continued growth of the Purdue Korean Program and the Purdue Interdisciplinary Center for Korean Studies (PICKS) through academic programming, outreach, recruitment, and student engagement.
  • Teach two undergraduate Korean Studies courses each semester.

Appointment

This is a full-time, Academic Year (AY) postdoctoral appointment beginning August 17, 2026. The initial appointment is for one academic year and is renewable for one additional academic year, contingent upon satisfactory performance and continued funding.

Candidates must be eligible for employment without visa sponsorship.

Education

Minimum Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Korean Studies or a closely related discipline by the start date of the appointment.
  • Demonstrated university-level teaching experience in Korean Studies and/or Korean language.
  • Expertise in one or more areas of Korean Studies, including Korean literature, Korean history, or other closely related disciplines within Korean Studies.

 

Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate:

  • Strong potential for scholarly research and publication.
  • Experience in student mentorship, academic program development, or outreach.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and collaborative skills.
