Job Summary
Systems Administrator
Purdue University | Information Technology
At Purdue University, we believe innovation happens when technology and purpose align. As a Systems Administrator, you’ll play a vital role in supporting the technology infrastructure that powers discovery, research, and learning across our campuses.
In this role, you will maintain, administer, and enhance both departmental and enterprise-level environments—including on-premises and hosted software and hardware solutions. You’ll identify and implement upgrades and patches, develop and maintain documentation for standard operating procedures, and help Purdue continually strengthen its technology foundation. A key part of your work will involve providing technical support for implemented solutions—diagnosing, troubleshooting, and resolving reported issues while minimizing user impact. You’ll collaborate closely with project managers, functional leads, business analysts, and other IT and campus partners to deliver reliable, secure systems that enable the Purdue community to work and learn effectively.
You will also proactively monitor server environments and application performance, tuning systems for optimal reliability and security. As part of Purdue’s dynamic IT community, you’ll have opportunities to evaluate emerging technologies, contribute to solution design, and support critical operations, including occasional after-hours and weekend responsibilities. This is a remote position.
What We’re Looking For:
- Experience with administering server environments, including both on-prem and cloud-based systems
- Knowledge of system monitoring, patch management, and performance tuning
- Strong troubleshooting, communication, and documentation skills
- Understanding of IT security principles and best practices
- Collaborative, solution-oriented mindset with attention to detail
Why Purdue:
At Purdue, your expertise matters. You’ll join a team where your technical insight supports thousands of users and advances the university’s teaching, research, and global engagement mission. Purdue offers a collaborative environment, opportunities for professional growth, and the satisfaction of knowing your work helps move the world forward.
Join us. Use your technical skills to make a lasting impact at one of the nation’s most innovative public universities.
