Purdue Global Curriculum Specialist (Remote)

Job Summary:

Purdue Global has a centralized curriculum team, Curriculum and Innovation (C&I), that supports the university in providing a flexible, personalized, and innovative curriculum for adult learners. C&I serves the university's students, faculty, chairs, deans, and vertical executive leaders through the development of courses and programs. Working collaboratively with faculty, C&I provides curriculum development and instructional design expertise to create new and revised courses and programs.


C&I employs people across two teams: Academics and Operations. The Academics team comprises Assistant Deans of Curriculum (ADoC), Curriculum Specialists (CS), a Director of Curricular Initiatives, and an Academic Project Manager.


The ADoC oversees curriculum development and maintenance for a specific school or group of programs. Each ADoC supervises a team of between 2-5 curriculum specialists, depending on the number of courses in their respective programs. The Curriculum Specialist (CS) reports to an ADoC or other manager on the academics team. Each CS is assigned a portfolio of courses to manage.

Our Opportunity:

As a member of the centralized curriculum team, the Curriculum Specialist (CS) role of project manager and instructional designer is integral to the success of our students.


As the project manager, a CS is responsible for managing assigned course development projects, collaborating with faculty subject-matter-experts (SMEs), conforming to Purdue Global curriculum standards, and adhering to project timelines. In addition, as the lead instructional designer, the CS is responsible for applying instructional design principles to ensure continuous quality improvement of courses.

What To Expect In This Role:

Project Management

  • Manages multiple simultaneous projects by applying advanced project management methods, including excellent communication and time management in a virtual environment to meet stated deadlines.
  • Oversees the development of courses associated with specific disciplines and ensures all courses are developed on schedule.
  • Monitors and reports on project status, progress, deviation from schedule, and issues that require resolution.
  • Guides course leads, SMEs, and other stakeholders through the curriculum development process.

Instructional Design

  • Provides instructional design guidance for all stakeholders in developing course content, assessments, outcomes, and grading rubrics aligned to PG curriculum standards.
  • Collaborates with stakeholders and multimedia (team or developer) to design multimedia aligned to research-based media standards and principles that support student learning.
  • Participates in curriculum evaluation, planning, and research related to curriculum quality and effectiveness. Ensures all decisions are based on available data.


  • Maintains accurate course documentation within all repositories.
  • Serves as a liaison for handling course issues with all stakeholders.(course lead, chair, publisher, production, etc.).

What We're Looking For:

  • Master's degree preferred in Curriculum Development, Education, Instructional Design, Instructional Technology, or a related field from a regionally accredited institution. Bachelor's degree in a related field with extensive experience (minimum 6 years) in online curriculum development may be considered.
  • Over two years of online curriculum development and instructional design experience with a team (e.g., subject-matter-experts, multi-media developers, and developers) is preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills – must work effectively both individually and as a virtual team member.   
  • Strong project and time management skills, e.g., meeting deadlines and handling diverse tasks simultaneously using prioritization. 
  • Ability to learn emerging technologies preferred.
  • Knowledgeable with Brightspace or other LMS systems. 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Google products.  
  • Familiar with synchronous/collaborative technologies, project management tools, and Web 2.0/cloud-based tools.

  • This position is a remote (work from home) position and can be worked anywhere in the U.S.
