Job Summary

The successful candidate will support researchers in the lab of Dr. Val Watts.  As the Research Technician, you will provide support in managing laboratory inventory, ordering lab equipment and supplies, managing laboratory stocks of chemicals and reagents, and assisting lab staff with experiments.  You will be expected to prepare and purify proteins, maintain cell stocks and DNA plasmids, run second messenger (e.g. cAMP and beta arrestin) and receptor binding assays, develop new assays, perform adenylyl cyclase regulation studies and maintain cell culture. This person will also be involved in animal studies with mice. You will also maintain records for laboratory including safety training and biohazards protocols.

What We're Looking For:

Education and Experience Needed

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Chemistry, or related field
  • One (1) year of experience in laboratory work


Skills Needed:

  • Excellent record keeping skills
  • Good communications skills with ability to follow oral and written instructions
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with emphasis on accuracy and attention to detail
  • Motivated individual with ability to efficiently multitask, work under pressure, handle interruptions and meet deadlines
  • Capable of taking initiative and assuming responsibility
  • Proficiency in software: Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Ability to:
    • identify and determine problems, analyze information, and implement solutions
    • work independently and in a team environment
    • carefully document research findings
    • work safely and accurately in a laboratory setting
