Job Description

The primary role of the Student Office Assistant position is administrative support of the daily operations of the Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities. The goal of this position is to give students valuable real-world experience in an office environment. The Student Office Assistant position should work between 8 and 15 hours per week during a given semester as outlined above. Those hours may be worked in any combination, at the discretion of the direct supervisor. The Student Office Assistant position must be reliable, organized, responsible, and flexible. They must also be ambitious, detail-oriented, creative, and driven.

 

Prerequisite(s)

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Basic computer skills including but not limited to knowledge of Windows applications, e-mail, and internet
  • Excellent customer service skills and professionalism in dealing with students, faculty/staff, and other constituents
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion
  • Ability to remain calm and handle situations that may involve conflict and/or high emotions

 

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent and minimum of one semester of college coursework successfully completed
  • Must be actively enrolled at Purdue University - West Lafayette
  • Previous work experience within customer service, an office setting, or customer-facing foodservice preferred
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Flexible and dependable with a strong attention to detail
  • Problem solving, logic and reasoning skills
  • Customer service oriented
  • Ability to multi-task and work within deadlines
  • Ability to work independently and with a team
  • Be timely and organized

Position Responsibilities

Position Responsibilities

  • Administrative tasks, including managing professional staff calendars, maintaining records, and sending communication on behalf of OSRR to various constituents
  • Exhibit friendliness, diplomacy, and tact in responding to customers, greeting visitors to the office, and answering phone calls
  • Prepare and maintain files for various constituents using Maxient software
  • Maintain confidentiality and exhibit professional conduct when handling sensitive information
  • Maintain high standard of cleanliness at the OSRR front desk
  • Serve and participate on committees within the division to provide feedback from a student lens
  • Responsible for all scheduled shifts (based on class/exam schedules for the semester)
  • Must attend all scheduled staff meetings to gain and/or share pertinent information
  • Other duties as assigned
