Job Summary

The Senior Instruction Specialist will be part of the leadership team that is committed to providing excellence in the common first-year engineering computer programming courses on Purdue University’s Indianapolis campus. This position will work with the faculty, instructors, and teaching assistants to co-develop instructional materials, in-class activities, homework, and projects for the first-year courses. This position will be lead person responsible for the instructional infrastructure and course materials being prepared, proofed and ready for the students on their respective days and times and ensuring that the materials are consistent and accurate across divisions. This person will be part of the team that supports students’ success and responds to issues outside of the class time.

Education and Experience

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Engineering Technology, Educational Design, Education or a related field 
  • Four (4) years of experience in one or more of the following:
    • teaching at the high school or college level 
    • computer programming experience, including creating programs, debugging, and troubleshooting
  • Awareness of modern computing tools, language, and trends, including AI.  
  • Experience in innovative problem-solving and design

Preferred:

  • Experience mentoring and/or supervising graduate and undergraduate students. 
  • Experience interpreting academic materials for classroom implementation and grading a plus.
  • Working knowledge of software used for course management (e.g., Brightspace) 
  • Knowledge of an engineering design cycle
  • Experience in MATLAB or Python.

  • Expert in Microsoft tools and Excel, especially in an engineering environment. 
  • Ability to independently learn and adapt new technologies to instructional needs and incorporate engineering concepts into course labs and projects according to course syllabi

  • Must be able to problem solve, function under pressure, meet deadlines, and demonstrate creativity in a fast-paced, changing work environment.
