Job Summary

The Senior Maintenance Mechanic will serve as the Machine Shop Supervisor to the Davidson School of Chemical Engineering and report to the Executive Officer. Design and fabricate parts and equipment for educational and research needs in the School. Assist the Building Deputy in the daily operations of the school and the maintenance of the facilities. Provide backup support to the Shipping/Receiving Coordinator. This position will require patiently tracking and following up on projects to completion, while working with the Business Office and providing reports to the ChE building team in regular meetings.

What We Are Looking For

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

REQUIRED:

  • High school diploma/GED
  • Four (4) years of related mechanical, maintenance, or relevant vocational experience       

 

SKILLS:

REQUIRED:

  • Thorough knowledge of processes, machines, machining techniques and materials for fabricating complex precision equipment
  • Analytical ability to interpret technical drawings/blueprints and comprehend verbal instructions
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability and skill to work with and instruct people of various cultural backgrounds with an emphasis on exercising patience, diplomacy, empathy, and respect towards others
  • Good (verbal and written) communication, time management, and organizational skills with a positive creative attitude
  • Must be able to manage the demands of multiple simultaneous tasks on a daily basis
  • Must be a highly motivated individual who will take initiative to solve problems, assume responsibility, and meet deadlines
  • Capable of using appropriate tools to maintain necessary laboratory records, project status, user training status, and inventory
  • Computer proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Ability to listen to directions and execute tasks as instructed while also finding ways to exercise initiative within the scope
  • Excellent adaptability and ability to learn quickly

 

PREFERRED:

  • Knowledge of general fire safety, MSDS, hazardous waste, and proper handling of solid and liquid propellants
  • Working knowledge of Purdue policies
