What You'll be Doing:

Provide plumbing construction, maintenance, and troubleshooting services for the Birck Nano-Technology Center. This facility contains highly complex systems that distribute ultra-clean air and utilities, supported by sophisticated control and alarm systems. Specialized training is required to safely perform all duties in the facility.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Install, maintain, repair, and troubleshoot plumbing systems for heating, gas, air, water, and drainage in compliance with cleanroom standards
  • Inspect, evaluate, and supervise the fabrication of piping from materials including galvanized, copper, stainless, glass, cast iron, ductile iron, clay, concrete, and aluminum
  • Read blueprints and perform calculations for construction and connections of plumbing systems
  • Develop schematics for completed projects
  • Instruct and coordinate tasks performed by other craftsperson as needed
  • Perform plumbing work in other buildings within the assigned zone
  • Respond to 24-hour callbacks for system breakdowns or emergencies; carry a pager at all times

Working Conditions:

  • Daily interaction with hazardous production materials (HPM)
  • Adherence to strict safety and cleanroom protocols to ensure employee safety and support research integrity
  • Specialized training required to operate and maintain all building systems

 

The typical work schedule for this role is Monday–Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with compensation ranging from $22.99 to $31.98, based on qualifications and experience.

What We're Looking For:

Education and Experience
Qualified Candidates Will Need:

  • HS diploma/GED
  • 4+ years of industrial plumbing experience

 

Skills Needed:

  • Must complete all required training to perform maintenance in the Nano-Technology building and cleanrooms, including the Birck training matrix and safety courses
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and mechanical aptitude
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations and interpret technical material
  • Knowledge of the practices and procedures necessary to perform work in the Nano-Technology Building and clean rooms
  • Knowledge of pipes, fittings and fixtures for heating, gas, air, water, and drainage systems
  • General knowledge of one or more skilled crafts
  • Ability to successfully complete supervisory training courses supervisory courses as directed
  • Computer skills/familiarity with word processor and spreadsheets
  • Ability to read and interpret various types of blueprints and schematics
  • Exposed to adverse conditions such as electrical hazards, extreme cold and heat, confined spaces and working from heights
  • Personal protective equipment required during specific operations
  • Must be able to lift and carry 50 to 80 lbs. frequently, and up to 100 lbs. or more occasionally
  • Valid driver's license required
